Car Air-Con Re-Gas & Repair in Cheshunt — R134a & R1234yf
If your air-con is blowing warm, smelling musty, or just not as cold as it used to be, the system needs servicing. We work on both R134a (older systems) and R1234yf (2017-onwards systems), with leak detection, full re-gas, and component repair from condensers to compressors.
Everything is in the price.
We hate hidden extras as much as you do. Every air conditioning job at Capital Tyre Services covers the lot — parts, labour, consumables and VAT.
- Old refrigerant recovery and recycling
- System vacuum and leak-down test
- Refill with the correct refrigerant and oil to manufacturer spec
- Performance check at the centre vent with thermometer
- Recommendations report if a leak or fault is found
A simple 4-step process.
- 01
Inspection
We check the compressor clutch, lines, condenser and cabin filter before we touch the gas.
- 02
Recover & vacuum
Existing refrigerant is recovered and weighed; the system is pulled into a deep vacuum to check for leaks.
- 03
Re-gas
Correct refrigerant and oil added by weight to manufacturer spec — not by eye.
- 04
Test
Vent temperature measured at idle and on test drive — typically 4–8°C from the centre vent.
Air Conditioning pricing — nothing hidden.
If the system can't hold a vacuum we won't add gas until the leak is fixed. Component repair quoted separately.

Common air conditioning issues we handle.
Low refrigerant
Most common cause of poor cooling. We recover, vacuum, leak-test and refill in one visit.
Failed compressor clutch
Diagnosed with electrical testing and replaced — saving the cost of a full compressor where possible.
Mouldy cabin filter
A blocked, damp cabin filter is the usual culprit behind musty smells — a quick, cheap fix.
A team you can trust with your car.
Correct refrigerant, correct amount
We weigh in gas to manufacturer specification — not 'until it feels cold'.
Leak detection, not refill-and-hope
If your system needs a re-gas every year, it's leaking. We find it before you waste another fill.
Full component repair
Compressors, condensers, expansion valves, pipes and clutches all replaced in-house.

- How often should I re-gas my air-con?
- Manufacturers typically recommend every 2 years. If yours needs re-gassing yearly, the system is leaking and should be tested.
- Do you handle R1234yf gas?
- Yes — we have dedicated equipment for both R134a (pre-2017) and R1234yf (most 2017+ vehicles).
- Why is my air-con making a smell?
- Usually a damp cabin filter or microbial growth in the evaporator. An anti-bacterial clean and new filter normally resolves it.
- Can you fix a leak as well as re-gas?
- Yes — UV dye and electronic leak detection locate the leak; we then quote the repair separately from the re-gas.
- Is air-con use bad for fuel economy?
- Air-con costs a small amount of fuel, but running it briefly every week keeps the seals lubricated and prevents bigger bills later.
